José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal (often pronounced [xo?se ?peð?o ?alma?seða pas?kal] in Spanish; born April 2, 1975) is a widely recognized actor from Chile and the United States. Following nearly two decades of taking small roles on stage and television, Pascal achieved his breakout role as Oberyn Martell in the season four of the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones (in 2014). He became even more prominent through his portrayal of Javier Peña in the Netflix crime series Narcos (between 2015 and 2017). He later appeared in the motion pictures *The Great Wall* (in 2016), *Kingsman: The Golden Circle* (released in 2017), *The Equalizer 2* (in 2018), and *Triple Frontier* (in 2019).
His starring roles as the character Din Djarin in the Disney+ sci-fi show *The Mandalorian* (2019–present) and Joel in the HBO post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us (from 2023 onward) brought him international fame, earning him a reputation for portraying characters who act as father figures. In *The Last of Us*, he won several accolades, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and nomination at the Golden Globes. He continued playing fatherly roles in the movies such as *We Can Be Heroes* (from 2020), *Strange Way of Life* (in 2023), and as Fink the fox in *The Wild Robot* (in 2024). Pascal has also starred in big-budget films such as *Wonder Woman 1984* (released in 2020) and *Gladiator II* (2024).
